Main area of activity of organization: |
The research activity of the Center is conducted in four sections, chemistry, biology, physics-mathematics and the social sciences, and concentrated around two main directions: 1) Development of scientific foundations for complex use of natural resources of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic by means of fundamental and applied research; 2) Archeological, ethnographic and epigraphic research of history, culture, customs of the region; study of folklore, artistic-cultural environment of the region. |

Main scientific achievements made over the last five years: |
The work carried out on five themes in `1996-2000 was reflected in final report for that period prepared by the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences in 2000. Two Doctoral Dissertations have been prepared and one Dissertation for Candidate of Sciences degree was successfully defended. The sixth edition of scientific articles of the Center was prepared for printing, three monographs and numerous articles were published in Russia and in various scientific journals of the National Academy. The scientists of the Center have participated in several international scientific congresses. The archeologists of the Center have participated in joint field expeditions together with archaeologists of the Istanbul University. |

Brief information on the organization's history: |
The Nakhchivan Scientific Center of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan was created by the Decree No. 33 of July 07, 1972 of Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. By Decree No. 14 of May 17, 1995 of Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan the Scientific Center was given a status of independent scientific establishment and re-named into Nakhchevan Regional Scientific Centre. By Decree No. 31 of February 01, 1994 of Cabinet of the Ministers the Nakhchivan Regional Scientific Center was named after Academician H.M.Abdullaev, one of the former Presidents of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. |
