Cooperation agreement between ANAS and BAS in the field of science

Meeting was held with president of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences of (BAS), an academician Nikola Sabotinov. Heads of institutes and organizations of ANAS and well-known scientists took part at the meeting.

President of ANAS, academician Mahmud Karimov greeted the visitors and talked about friendly relations between two countries. He emphasized importance establishment of mutual cooperation relations, science, knowledge and experience exchange in the in science field, preparation of joint projects, training of scientific personnel.

Academician N. Sabotinov made a speech on theme “Increasing the effectiveness of research performed by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences” gave detailed information about scientific activity of the academy. He noted that the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is a national scientific research centre comprising scientific institutes and a national learned society covering all areas of sciences and arts; an assembly of titular and corresponding members. Science policy of BAS is encompassing four principal fields of knowledge and activities(Basic research, applied research, science training, scientific advice and expertise in service of the Bulgarian state and society).

N. Sabotinov stated that, BEA has a staff of 6500, the number of tenure holding scientists is 2900. According to statistics of the Institute of Science Information, they were producing 60% of the scientific articles published in peer-reviewed magazines and participated in the international science programmes of EU and NATO.

The guest stated that, over the period 1991-2008 the total publishing output of BAS scientists grew by 67%, in 2010 the scientific articles of scientists of BAS published in science journals amounted to 11500.

Talking about international relations of BAS, the academician noted that, the Bolgarian Academy of Sciences is in scientific partnership with 35 countries, maintains bilateral cooperation with over 40 foreign academies of sciences and other national scientific institutions. He emphasized that, 28 BAS institutes participated in 70 projects of National Innovation Fund Projects. Academician also activity of Regional Scientific Research Centers attached to BAS.

Later N. Sabotinov answered the questions of scientists.

At the end of cooperation agreement was signed between ANAS and BAS in the field of science.
