Molecular-genetic mechanisms of the processes of synthesis, assembly and formation of pigment-protein complexes which are the structural and functional components of the photosynthetic membranes of higher plants were studied. It was revealed that the regulation of formation of the photosystem I, photosystem II and light-harvesting complexes takes place, mainly, at posttranscriptional level, and cooperation between genome and proteinsynthesizing complexes of chloroplast and nucleus is observed at that time. Principles of assembly of pigment-protein complexes in different light regimes were determined and the structural and stabilizing role of carotenoids in these processes has been revealed. For the first time, the proteins of wheat plant primarily induced by the light called the ELIP were observed and it was proved that they are carotenoid proteins. Molecular basis of protection and adaptation processes of the tolerance of photosynthetic apparatus of the different genotypes of wheat to drought and saline stress was detected and marker signs for selection of tolerant varieties were defined. The screening of drought tolerance of the durum (Tiriticum durum L.) and bread (Triticum aestivum L.) wheat genotypes collected in the Gene Bank of Azerbaijan through the use of the RAPD, SSR and functional markers was performed and drought-tolerant varieties were identified. Tomato yellow leaf curl virus, Bean common mosaic virus, Bean leaf roll virus, Bean yellow mosaic virus, Chickpea chlorotic dwarf virus, Alfalfa mosaic virus  and the combination of these viruses were the first time detected by serological and molecular methods (DAS-ELISA, RCA, PCR) in cultural and wild vegetable plants collected in different regions of Azerbaijan and their molecular identification was carried out.
